In particular, the project will develop a National Export Strategy (NES), which will provide Pakistan with a set of home-grown sector and functional strategies, each specifying clear priorities and actions to improve trade performance in each identified sector and trade-support function. The strategy design process is structured around in-depth consultations, especially with the private sector, to ensure broad national participation and ownership. In addition, the project is also extending support to Pakistan in setting up a mechanism to enhance and supervise the efficient implementation of its National Trade Policy Framework, and in developing coherent trade, industrial, investment and other policies/regulations to achieve export competitiveness with a view to address non-tariff trade barriers (NTBs) faced by Pakistan businesses, especially women-owned SMEs, in accessing key markets. It will also assist Pakistan to maximize the beneficial effects of trade facilitation reforms in line with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)’s Customs Strategic Plan. In particular, the project will support Pakistan to foster an enabling environment which makes the implementation of trade facilitation reforms – and the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) – successful and long-lasting.
