    The role of cooperative societies

One of the main objectives of the WACOMP Senegal project is to encourage the emergence of cooperative societies with a business purpose, based on the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) Uniform Act. Through the strengthening of the mango and onion sectors, the cooperative societies will contribute to the overall promotion of the economic development of rural areas in Senegal.

In particular, they will facilitate access to finance opportunities to producers by engaging them in a transformation process as well as improvement of the quality and volume of their production.

ITC will also provide support to the Senegalese Ministry of Agriculture to operationalise the cooperative societies’ registration system, which is a prerequisite to attain bank credit.
