Government and Business Support Organisations

  • The SME Competitiveness survey helps governments and business support organizations (also known as Trade and Investment Support Institutions) collect data about companies in their country to fuel evidence-based policymaking. ITC provides technical assistance on data collection and analysis. This collaboration enables governments and business support organizations to:

    • Be better informed of challenges faced by SMEs across sectors, regions and leadership types
    • Design and execute effective policies targeted to these constraints so that SMEs can boost their competitiveness and take advantage of new opportunities.

    Quotes from our partner institutions

“ITC and AGI have worked together to highlight the important role that successful SMEs and economic competitiveness can play in promoting sustainable development and growth. Economic development, social inclusion and environmental sustainability are three interconnected pillars, and no one pillar can be addressed by only one institution. AGI welcomes ITC’s increasing engagement and facilitation in multi-stakeholder partnerships and processes at the global, regional, and national levels through the Alliances for Action initiative as well as sector development strategies that enable SMEs to reach their full potential.”

    - Seth Twum-Akwaboah
Chief Executive Officer - Association of Ghana Industries

“…SMECs is extremely important as it provides ZDA with an opportunity to interface with the private sector, understand their production and marketing dynamics as well as their challenges, and make recommendations to government. The SMECS therefore provides a basis for trade policy recommendations to government as well as provision of a basis of activities for ZDA as guided, such as preferred target markets for research and promotional activities. I therefore implore every businessperson to regard this exercise as crucial and thereby provide the necessary support required”
