  • Story: Forging collaboration through entrepreneurial ecosystems for youth 

    The International Trade Centre’s Youth & Trade programme and its global Ye! Community support young entrepreneurs around the world. Through an online platform, Ye! provides a space for networking, including access to mentors, opportunities, events, tools and resources.

    World Export Development Forum 2016

    The World Export Development Forum (WEDF), a flagship event of ITC, is a unique global platform dedicated to supporting trade-led development. WEDF provides an issue-focused setting for policymakers, trade & investment support institutions and business leaders to gain practical understanding in trade competitiveness. The 16th edition of the WEDF will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 12-13 October. A dedicated session on youth entrepreneurship and innovation will be part of the programme followed by a practical workshop.

    Global Entrepreneurship Week

    Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. The GEW 2016 will be from 14th to 20th November.

    New Generation International Forum in Cameroun

    This international forum highlighted the opportunities offered by the cocoa and coffee sectors to young people in general and in Cameroon in particular. It was held in the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé on the 8th and 9th August 2016. This forum was an opportunity to showcase the achievements of the New Generation programme in Cameroon in the last three years and allowed more than 1000 youth to become agro-entrepreneurs. It gave also the opportunity to bring together experts from the private and public sectors to discuss the way forward and how such an initiative could be up scaled and replicated in other countries with the support of all interested parties. ITC is currently discussing collaboration with New Generation in partnership with the OIF and the COLEACP.

    Africa 21 and Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF)

    The conference on “Commerce et entrepreneuriat des jeunes en Afrique” was organized by think-tank Africa21 with the support of OIF. The event was in honour of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular focus on the Global Goal 8 “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”. The panellists represented the ITC’s Youth and Trade Programme, UNCTAD’s EMPRETEC programme, and the Impact Hub Geneva.

    The International Economic Forum of the Americas 2016

    The International Economic Forum of the Americas is committed to heightening knowledge and awareness of the major issues concerning economic globalization, with a particular emphasis on the relations between the Americas and other continents. The Conference also strives to foster exchanges of information, to promote free discussion on major current economic issues and facilitate meetings between world leaders to encourage international discourse by bringing together Heads of State, the private sector, international organizations and civil society. ITC Youth and Trade Programme Manager, Mr. David Cordobes, was a speaker at the session on “Strengthening Entrepreneurship Among Youth and Women: A Priority for Sustainable Development in the Francophonie”.

    The ECOSOC Youth Forum – Youth taking Action to Implement the 2030 Agenda

    The Youth Forum brought young leaders from around the world to the UN Headquarters in New York to engage in a dialogue with Member States on the active role young people can play in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ITC Youth and Trade Programme together with UNRWA, UNICEF, and UNFPA participated as panellists in the session on ‘Key Regional Priorities for Youth Development in the Middle East and North Africa’.
